The Gita Govinda has been studied and cherished across time by Sanskrit scholars and
enthusiasts but enjoyed only in fragments by the common people because artists and artistes
have always tended to highlight and popularize only a few sections, based on their personal
preferences. As a result, the complete masterpiece is a mystery, very few people have ever
had access to.
This fascinating prospect of showcasing for the world the complete charm of a literary work was what brought together Guru Dr Pali Chandra and her team supported by Natyasutra - Invis team, transcending differences of language, time zone and country. The programme has been designed based on Natyasastra and Abhinaya Darpana so that the students of all dance forms can make use of this content in their respective forms.
A tale widely considered India's greatest literary love saga, it chronicles the trials and
tribulations of Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. Even eight hundred years after its
composition, its imprint can be seen in dance, music, art, sculpture, painting, craft, literature,
designs and all forms of self-expression. If we had to describe loyalty and devotion to the
world, we would always begin with the Gita Govinda .
The core intention of this project is simple: the coming generations must remember and
appreciate the true idea of love and harmony that India wishes to project to the entire world.
An ancient land, home to ever-changing empires and kingdoms, India is a rich tapestry with centuries of cultural and historical transformations woven into it. The story of Lord Krishna and Radha’s eternal love is etched in our minds as one of the greatest romances of all time. And the credit goes entirely to Jayadeva, the 12th century poet and composer of the matchless song of love, Gita Govinda. To devotees of the Eternal Lover-God, it is a song celebrating Radha-Krishna romance. To artists and performers, it is a work of rare musical beauty, and to lovers of poetry, a text of peerless literary value.
NatyaSutra is an attempt to permanently preserve the rich art and cultural heritage of India. Our dream is to provide 24/7 online access to personalized lectures, tutorials, classes, and performances of all Indian art and culture.
